Montaña Amarilla

The Yellow Mountain of La Graciosa

Discover what to do in La Graciosa…

La Graciosa’s Montaña Amarilla

From where it comes out of Caleta de Sebo in the direction of the beaches in the southern area El Salado and la Francesa we can observe its silhouette in shades of yellow and ochre throughout.

With a height of 172m, it is one of the four volcanic ranges of la Graciosa, that should not be missed when you visit the island, because it is one of the most emblematic places of the Chinijo archipelago and also of the Canary Islands themselves.

Yellow, ocher, brow and red contrast with the turquoise blue and green of the crystal-clear waters that surround it and the small cove of golden sands that flank it; Playa de la Cocina. Avery charming beach, calm waters inviting you to take a dip and go snorkeling. It is worth staying to see the sunset from Playa de La Cocina as the sun leaves marching into the horizon, the mountain begins to take on a yellow colour that leaves nobody indifferent.

An easy route with spectacular scenery

Montaña Amarilla Excursion

It is 6km from Caleta de Sebo which can be done by bike, taxi or on foot taking an hour and a half enjoying the constant scenery until you get there. Depending on the time of year when you go it is advisable to do the trip by 4x4 taxi to the Playa de La Francesa, to where the taxi stops and walk from there to Montana Amarilla, avoiding the heat of the route, as it is full of plains with no shade. If you go by bike, you will also have to leave it at the bike stands just in front of the beach, and take a relaxing walk from there.

Just before you get to Montana Amarilla, there is a small trail on the hillside marked by the footsteps of people who have made the trip to the top. Snaking the hill-side a bit the first section isn’t difficult, but as you arrive at the last section near the top it can be somewhat difficult due to the steepness of the terrain, however you can carefully climb it and from there enjoy spectacular and wonderful views of practically the entire island, because when you find yourself at one end of La Graciosa, you can see the other three volcanic ranges, as well as the cliffs and crags of La Famara and the ‘El Rio’ zone.
